Dr Roy Tan graduated from Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine (NUS). Subsequently, he went on to specialize in ophthalmology, obtaining his Masters of Medicine (Ophthalmology) from NUS. He was then admitted as a fellow of The Royal College of Ophthalmologist (UK) and Academy of Medicine (FAMS). He was also active as a clinical lecturer at NUS and Lee Kong Chien School of Medicine.
Dr Roy was awarded the Human Manpower Development Programme Scholarship, sponsoring him a year as a clinical fellow in the world renowned Academic Medical Centre (Amsterdam), where he was trained in Oculoplastic and Orbital surgeries. He also received a national award for quality service (Excellent Service Award (EXSA)- Silver) in 2016.
As an Oculoplastic and Orbital surgeon, he specializes in treating eyelid malpositions such as ptosis, eyelid retraction, entropion, ectropion, lash ptosis and epiblepharon; eyelid lumps such as chalazion (stye) and other lumps and bumps; cosmetic surgery such as blepharoplasty, double eyelid surgery, eye-bags and botox injections; orbit surgeries that deals with benign and malignant tumours of the orbit, thyroid eye disease, orbital fractures, infection of the orbit, fat prolapse and prosthetic eye; lacrimal system issues that causes tearing (nasolacrimal duct obstruction) or infection (dacryocystitis). He also does general ophthalmology work such as the diagnosis and treatment of myopia, glaucoma, diabetic retinal disease, age-related macular degeneration, dry eyes, corneal disease, inflammatory eye conditions as well as cataract and pterygium surgeries.
He was an Oculoplastics and Orbital surgeon, who completed his general ophthalmology training in Singapore. He spent a year as a clinical fellow in Academic Medical Centre (Amsterdam), where he was trained in Oculoplastic and Orbital surgeries under Prof Peerooz Saeed, Dr Roel Kloos and Dr Dyonne Hartong. His clinical interests are eyelid surgery (Oculoplastic), lacrimal system surgery, orbital surgery as well as general ophthalmology including cataract surgeries.
